Distant Trumpets: A vivid and powerful adventure set in French-occupied Algeria in 1852.

Veteran Egyptian/French cavalry officer Louis Abdelal joins his new regiment, the 4th Chasseurs d’Afrique, which is sent to the Saharan town of Biskra to quell a rebel uprising.

The rebellion spreads to Laghouat, whose rulers, loyal to the French, are imprisoned by the rebels, so Abdelal and his comrades take part in the campaign to recapture the town. During the siege, both personal and larger conflicts are finally resolved.
