Miera, her body and soul broken by years of abuse at her mother’s brothel in Melbourne,Australia, is held captive by crushing poverty and her own sense of worthlessness. Deyon is captivated by Miera’s face and decides she is the “soul” he needs to bring life to his latest venture. Miera, repelled by men, escapes from him, but Deyon is accustomed to having his own way. His resources allow him to find and discover everything about her. He creates an elaborate plan to use her face in his advertising campaign, dragging Miera into his own world despite their wildly divergent backgrounds.

Miera reacts violently by running away, straight into disaster. Deyon rescues her, and she finds herself in Perth, falling in with his plans. Though it appears Miera is embracing Deyon’s world, in reality, scar tissue is growing around her soul, insulating her from life. She falls prey to yet another disaster, and eventually her pain becomes overwhelming. Too late, Deyon discovers what Miera means to him, forcing him to acknowledge money can’t buy love, and it can’t buy Miera.

About the Author

Deborah Marree Wise grew up in Victoria, Australia. “We moved a lot, so we never stayed in one place for longer than a few years.” She now calls Perth home. This is the first book for the mother of six.
