In the era of glasnost and perestroika, Soviet Head of State Mikhail Gorbachev wanted to bring American tourists into the USSR to bolster the country’s sagging economy. Back in 1991, the author was invited to visit and to write about, photograph, and film what the Soviet Union had to offer American tourists and hunters.

That first trip led to 22 years of travel back and forth to the former Soviet Union, now Russia. Traveling with the author on later trips were such dignitaries as Apollo Astronaut Jim McDivitt, who was stalked by a bear, and four-star Air Force General Earl O’Loughlin, who previously flew spy plane missions over the Soviet Union, which made for an interesting confrontation with the KGB!

This fascinating book relates the excitement, mystery, and danger of living and traveling in Siberia. Learn how the people survive in this harsh climate and what they think of Americans. Although the book is framed by hunting, it is just as much about the people and the culture of Siberia.
