About the Book
Two families living 60 years apart share a cursed history in the novel A Buried Plot on Legacy Road.
Off a route named Legacy Road, the Braintree family lived in 1930 on the banks of the Hudson River in the community of Northern Spring, New York. The mansion known as The Braintree House that Silas Braintree built during the booming 1920s, dominates the riverbank.
The area’s economy depends on five factories located along the river, one of which, The Braintree Textile Company, belongs to Silas, who is married and has two grown children. During the early months of 1930, the family foresaw the Great Depression coming and stole the weekly factory payroll. Initially successful, the plan ended in death and a curse was placed on the family mansion.
The Hammilson family also consists of a couple and their two grown children. When the family moves into The Braintree House in 1991, they feel an odd sense of déjà vu.
About the Author
John Michael Heuer is an acclaimed playwright, and has also written numerous screenplays and television scripts. Clive Barnes of The New York Times wrote of his play “Innocent Thoughts, Harmless Intentions”: “A play of style, compassion and thought. One of the few unequivocally good nights I have had in the theater this season!” A 14-year resident playwright for the famed Circle Repertory Company, he lives with his wife in the Hudson River village of Hastings-On-Hudson. This is his first novel.
