It’s another mundane Signal Intelligence mission for the Blackthorn, a Confederation Deep Space Survey Ship whose patrol area is situated in the Terran southern pole region of interstellar space, an area encompassing the constellations of the Ara\/Parvo star groupings.<\/span><\/p>

The bored crew, led by Captain McClintock, responds to an urgent call from the Sophistry’s Time Minister, causing them to violate their mission boundaries. They render assistance to a huge, damaged vessel called the Nth Degree, a time ship that has been set upon by six warships of the Morritite Federation.<\/span><\/p>

Blasting two ships to pieces, they are captured and “encouraged” to repair a ship so it can return to their own time. With the extensive repairs completed, McClintock and his crew are ordered to use their vessel to “seal a hole in space” so it will remain sealed once the ship departs their time. In a no-win situation, the captain agrees.<\/span><\/p>

The time is the thirty-first century. An old foe had resurfaced in an area of space no one had expected. An urgent call, transmitted four decades earlier, had finally been received from the ultra-distant Soo-Erthra Space. Its message sent alarm bells ringing within Terra Space Command Headquarters, as this event was taking place in the very backyard of the feared planet-destroying Ypsilanti Empire. Alerted to this new danger by the humanoid-denizen’s hosts of the first contact with a Confederation vessel in the circa 2400s, this new crew travels slowly to that same region to render assistance in the solving of the mystery of the resurgence of the Al Suhailli Dakkarosis. The protagonists are the twelve-member crew of the CSS\u00a0Boulder City<\/em>, commanded by Wendy Rotenberg, dispatched from the Confederation colony of Orindani Prime to join forces with the feline-in-appearance humanoids known as The Dau of the Soo-Erthran planet of Lesbos. Six humans are awakened from Cryo-sleep and find themselves marooned in the depths of interstellar space. With their shipmates murdered and three unaccounted for, three of the survivors – Lt. Daphne Chigusa Lee, Chief Petty Officer Olivia Cruz, and a civilian, Franklin Cecil Royster – find themselves at odds on forging intimate relationships. Royster keeps a journal of their survival.<\/p>

Interpersonal conflicts intensify as Chief Petty Officer Calvin Grimm and Petty Officer Reginald Burke suspect Royster has taken indecent liberties with the women.<\/p>

Under increasing physical and emotional harassment, Royster flees the crash site, followed later by Lee. During their excursions they discover one of the ship’s ejected escape crafts, in which only Olivia Cruz survived, but she has sustained horrific injuries. With Cruz stabilized, Lee returns to the freighter to continue her treatments.<\/p>

The two groups reluctantly join forces, but explosive, long-hidden secrets are laid bare. If they are to survive, everyone must overcome their differences.<\/p>

In the late twenty-fifth century, a long-dormant mystery resurfaces involving the disappearance in deep space of a Pulvermacher-class supply freighter. Handed what appears to be another mundane \u201cresearch and report\u201d commission, Junior Agent Benoit Carter is about to have his well-ordered life profoundly change.<\/span><\/p>

Carter\u2019s initial search shows that his investigative section has been infiltrated by clandestine alien moles. Then a retired Confederation senior agent is murdered, an entire Del Mar subdivision is destroyed, and Carter is gravely injured in an assassination attempt.<\/span><\/p>

As Cox, Executive Officer Genni Carr, and Prime Minister Jon Dewey confer, the cause of this destruction has been transported for hiding at the North Pole of their terrestrial moon Trinity by two male Terran ne\u2019er-do-wells and two female Dakkarosi denizens.<\/p>

An ancient modified Expansion War-era Terran transport is spotted from orbit by a vessel on routine patrol, as it\u2019s in the process of unloading a huge block of ancient silver metal. The perpetrators are apprehended and interrogated on Danovia. It\u2019s disclosed that these Dakkarosi denizens ignited the spreading conflict by stealing this object from the unknown and powerful Ypsilanti Empire!
