Your Future Begins Today

Jim Davidson is a Christian businessman and a native of Gould in Southeast Arkansas. His career as a public speaker, author and motivational consultant has spanned almost 50 years. Some of his many awards and achievements include: Arkansas Salesman of the Year, Chairman of the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce’s Diamond Club sales organization, Justice of the Peace in Pulaski County, Chairman of the Speakers Bureau of the Pulaski County United Way, Leadership Gavel recipient as voted by members of his Dale Carnegie Class, and honorary member of the DECA & GCE Clubs of Arkansas. He has been presented with the “Good Neighbor Award” by the Conway Chamber of Commerce and is the 2010 “Distinguished Service Award” winner for Conway Public Schools.

In 1980 Jim began writing and producing a daily radio program titled, “How to Plan Your Life.” It has been broadcast on over 300 stations coast to coast and heard by thousands of people each weekday. In 1995, he also began writing a weekly newspaper column for his hometown newspaper, the Log Cabin Democrat, in Conway, Arkansas. With over 365 papers in 35 states running the column since its inception, it is believed to be the most successful self-syndicated column in the history of American journalism. In 2005, he founded a nationwide literacy program titled, “A Bookcase for Every Child,” to provide a quality bookcase, and a starter set of books to children being reared in low-income families. This project has spread to five other states and they have now given over 2,000 bookcases to those deserving children.

His last work may be the most important. Jim has made a commitment to partner with Arkansas PBS to develop a curriculum to teach pre-school children the success habits of Character, Integrity, Respect and Manners. He believes that, in time, this will change the culture of violence in America.

Each chapter of life holds a particular blessing. As a baby boomer from Pike County in Southern Arkansas, life was often tough along the Caddo River. We barely survived the droughts of 1953 and 1954. Though the dust bowl was more severe just west of us, cotton, corn, and cattle had no bottom in price and yields were worse than that. We hung on with a hope and a prayer. We ate what we could get and mother always seemed to manage a meal. Thankfully, we were about to hold on to the family farm when Dad went to work for the Arkansas State Police in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1954.

I love Jim's compilation of simple yet helpful reminders of how to live life. It's as if Jim Davidson had spent time on my family farm to have put this book's thoughts and contents together. Even if Jim didn't live in my neck of the woods, he seemingly was influenced by the same people that I have known for the past seventy-four years.

This book helped me remember that the best things in life are free. For instance, observing a child's growth, running through the rain, playing with a dog, smiling at others, or taking children to church to learn about God's salvation. Some of my favorite memories are watching my children sing 'Nothing but the Blood of Jesus," or learning about how Jesus turned the water into wine. These are all integral parts of my life that cost nothing.

I just wish I had read this book fifty years ago.

Jim's book reminds me to get rid of the past. Work on the present and establish a foundation for your future. You can overvalue what we have now and then miss out of what really matters. This book and "The Author" will show you a better way.

This book helped me define 'A hope and a prayer" with knowledge, temperance, diligence and brotherly kindness that are all in God's plan for life and developing relationships with others especially your children, grandchildren, and the people you work with and serve. I have spent over fifty years building relationships many are still present today and working to build more every day. I always ask four questions to start a good relationship. First, 'Can I trust you?" Next, "Do you trust me?" Third, "Do you care about me?" Lastly, "Will you keep me informed?" If all answers are "Yes," the relationship will last a lifetime. Always keep the lines of communication open both up and down because it help relationships grow and be a resource fo others.

Today, I am getting closer to the end of this slippery slope of life. I can only trust, wish and hope that I might hear some young person say, "AThere goes a man that showed me the way." There will be nothing better than that for me.

I know you will grow from reading this book. I will guarantee it. Jim Davidson is for real and lives what he writes.

I know that stress is tough, but worry is a sin. "Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice. Let your moderation be known to all men. The Lord is at hand." Philippians 4:4-5

I am honored and proud that I got to review "My Future Begins Today." I believe you will enjoy this book immensely.

5.0 out of 5 stars Living on a hope and a Prayer - Take Life One Day at a Time - By Judge Jim Baker
Imagine a book, with a truism title, meant to teach principles and practices that will make a difference in life. Imagine further that these counts are based on Biblical principles seen by a prolific writer and prefaced by a respected government administrator. Such a work is Your Future Begins Today written by Jim Davidson and introduced by Judge Jim Baker. These two seasoned agents, influenced by a little Arkansas hardscrabble, make the case for going forward with hope.

The book is divided into three life-stage sections which then relate thirty or so feature stories about helpful tenets. These life-stage sections are meaningful to all, but a person at any age looking for ways to do better can find material pertinent to that starting point. Not surprisingly, coming from Jim Davidson, READING emerges several times as an important force. However, many other pithy concepts are portrayed in this treatise, and a few will strike from time to time as especially telling. Examples might include a statement about the mind not automatically going toward the best but toward what it is exposed to the most. Another example might be the point about forgiving others “because you deserve peace.”

Your Future Begins Today seeks to help people who want a better life achieve “happiness, success, and personal fulfillment.” It contains extended expressions of thought accumulated over decades that stand to render such help. Moreover, it reminds readers of manifold truisms they might have failed to employ.

Jim Davidson's conversational style is powerful. His chapters on goals vital to achieve success and the value of finding mentors who place you first are worth the price you pay for the whole book. Jim is passionate about improving the lives of those whose futures have been undermined by misfortune. This book is about giving them a second chance.

I enjoyed the stories in this book, as they are all down to earth and relatable. I particularly liked how the book used different sections to give a view of life as a youngster, an adult and a retiree. We all need some good reading during this Covid pandemic, and this book fits the bill!
