I am a three-times mobilized U.S. Army Reserve Medical Service officer (Major (Ret.)) 17 years, and former U.S. Army Combat Medic, 5 years, who resides on Long Island, N.Y., with my wife and five children. I am the author of \u201cSaving Grace at Guantanamo Bay: A Memoir of a Citizen Warrior,\u201d which is my real story of being the ranking U.S. Army Medical Department officer with the Joint Detainee Operations Group, Joint Task Force 160, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, from February to June, 2002. I was responsible for medical, preventive medical and environmental services for unlawful combatants (detainees). Literally, I helped take care of people who wanted to kill me, and I tell the story of what it\u2019s like for a career Army Reservist before, during, and after a deployment, away from home, family, and career. I am a\u00a0 retired educator (former teacher, dean of students and school district administrator), 36 years, and worked in the New York City Public Schools, Long Island public schools, and at Stony Brook University. I am also the author of\u00a0Theodore<\/em>, a personal narrative published in the 2006 Random House wartime anthology,Operation Homecoming: Iraq, Afghanistan and the Home Front in the Words of U.S. Troops and Their Families.\u00a0<\/em>I hold a B.S. Ed. degree in Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance from the University of Alabama, an M.S. degree in Teaching and Learning from Teachers College – Columbia University, and School District Administrator’s certificate from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. I spend my time being the best husband, father, church Trustee, VFW member, and citizen I can be. I enjoy reading, writing, research, travel, content creation and social media\u00a0interaction.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
