Ten-year-old Joseph is an orphan who lives with his aunt and uncle on a small farm in Kwa Zulu, South Africa. He dreams of a wonderful future, but doesn’t know how he will make his desires a reality.

This little boy takes his family’s sheep out to graze on Inkwelo Mountain and finds himself chasing a jackal pup that has also been orphaned. The events that follow test his courage and determination, and show everyone that he did the right thing. In the end, he faced his fears and triumphed, earning respect and making his dreams come true.

About the Author

Now retired, Wendy Cumberland grew up in England and emigrated to South Africa, where she has lived for more than 40 years. She enjoys writing for South African children, for whom she has the greatest admiration. This is her first book.
